ALBAWABA - Due to the surprisingly strong demand for a beer dubbed "Osama Bin Lager," which was named after the former head of Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, a British pub and brewery have had to temporarily close.
East England-based Mitchell Brunk Company said that they had not anticipated the spike in demand for Osama Bin Lager. They had to stop taking phone orders and shut down their website in order to handle the surge of inquiries due to the extraordinary demand.
Described on their website as "a light, refreshing lager with a hint of citrus," the beer is packaged in bottles featuring a cartoon caricature of the Al-Qaeda leader, who was killed in 2011. The brewery and pub are run by Luke and Catherine Mitchell.
In addition to marketing other alcoholic drinks with amusing names that make fun of political personalities like Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin, the brewery began making Osama Bin Lager a year ago.
In an interview with the BBC, Luke Mitchell explained, "They’re all tongue-in-cheek names — a nicer outlook on some horrible dictators." Catherine Mitchell added, "We’ve woken up the last couple of mornings with thousands and thousands of notifications," referring to the viral spread of images of their beer on social media.
