Killer of Iraqi Transgender 'Semsem' revealed

ALBAWABA - The identity of the individual who killed 'Semsem" an alleged transgender Iraqi was revealed seven days after the incident and arrested, according to the Ministry of Interior in Iraq.

According to security sources, the incident took place on Feb. 14, 2024, in the afternoon specifically at the center of Diwaniyah. The individual responsible for the murder was equipped with a sharp knife as he stabbed the transgender person several times in the abdomen until they died. 

The accused was later revealed to be a taxi driver who confessed to committing the crime due to a dispute between him and Semsem. The taxi driver claimed that Semsem refused to play after requesting a ride from the Al-Arouba neighborhood to the University area in Hawalli which led to the stabbing incident.

Semsem didn't hide the fact that they associate with the LGBTQ community as they wore feminine clothing, and makeup and occasionally danced in a feminine manner on their official TikTok account.

According to Erem News, a source told the news outlet that Semsem who was 28, used to reside in Turkey for eight years before coming back home to Diwaniyah, Iraq where he was stabbed to death two days later.

The individual apparently received a plethora of death threats before getting killed which warned Semsem of the consequences of returning to Iraq.
