ALBAWABA - Following a provocative action by British journalist Douglas Murray, the chair where Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar spent his last minutes before being assassinated by Israeli soldiers has once again made headlines.
As part of an Israeli military-sponsored media tour, Murray shared a picture of himself sitting on the chair in the home where Sinwar and two of his friends were slain in an armed conflict. Murray's "X" (formerly Twitter) account posted the picture with the comment, "A photo from Tel al-Sultan in Rafah today, where the terrorist Sinwar met his end."
Given the delicate nature of the current conflict and Sinwar's position in it, many people saw Murray's actions as "provocative" after seeing the photograph.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged Sinwar's death in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, but he said that "the war is far from over." The Israeli military acknowledged that Sinwar died accidentally while conducting operations in Gaza.
Many people believe Sinwar was the mastermind behind the October 7, 2023, coordinated assault on Israeli settlements and military installations close to Gaza by Palestinian groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, known as the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation. Significant Israeli fatalities were caused by the strike, which also damaged Israel's standing in the military and intelligence community.
