ALBAWBA - A TikTok video of an adorable baby penguin having breakfast went viral on social media, sparking debate and speculations about its authenticity with some pointing out that the clip is AI-generated.
Despite many social media users expressing their joy towards the video, several took to platforms like Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) and showcased the dangers of AI-generated content to the untrained eye, as it spreads misinformation and fake news.
The viral video of a penguin having breakfast is AI
By the time of writing this article, several social media platforms including Zuckerberg's Instagram have been demanding their users to tick a box, if AI is used in their posts to prevent legal issues. Moreover, AI-generated images using X's AI companion Grok, usually include a watermark on the bottom right for clearance.
The absence of a watermark might suggest otherwise but It's clear that AI has been used to generate the penguin video due to inaccuracies in lighting and movement.

Nobel Prize winner and Physicist Geoffrey Hinton recently stated in an interview with Bloomberg that AI is an existential threat to humankind.
Hinton said, "Until recently I believed it was a long way off. I always thought it would be a very long-term threat but I thought it would be 100 years before we had really smart things...Um, 50 years maybe."
He added, "Sometime in the next 20 years... These things will get smarter than us and we really need to worry about what happens then."
While a video of a penguin having breakfast is harmless to many, AI can harm humanity in many ways including spreading misinformation, using people's features without consent, taking over people's jobs, and more.
