UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Friday urged the US and other prominent states in the Security Council to redouble their efforts to hasten the creation of an independent Palestinian state and to provide it with necessary protection against Israeli aggression and hegemony, Emirates’ official news agency (WAM) reported.

In a letter he sent to the head of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, Sheikh Zayed welcomed the US Administration's recently declared position in support of the establishment of a Palestinian state in order to bolster peace in the Middle East.

Sheikh Zayed said that the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people was an expression of support for the just and legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people to end Israeli occupation of their territories and holy places.

Sheikh Zayed strongly condemned Israel's policy of expropriation of lands, expansion of colonies and the state terrorism practiced by the Israeli administration against unarmed Palestinians inside Palestinian areas.

He said that Israel was responsible for the grave consequences that could result from its serious violations, calling these violations as legally null and void as well as a legal and political transgression against international law and the fourth Geneva Convention of 1949.

The UAE reiterates its condemnation in the strongest of words, all serious Israeli violations, particularly those related to the expropriation of lands and natural resources and colonial settlements, said the agency.

"We also affirm the continuation of our firm and principled position in support of the Palestinian intifada and the balanced resolutions of the Palestinian Authority in rejection of such aggressive Israeli policy.

"We hold the Israeli government responsible for the grave consequences as a result of its colonial plans which are contrary in form and content to the regional countries' peace approaches which aim at achieving peace and security in the region and the world,” Sheikh Zayed was quoted by WAM as saying – Albawaba.com
