Militants belonging to the Al-Qaeda network fired a rocket-propelled grenade into the living compound of a tribal chief in the Yemeni capital on Tuesday, according to the Sheikh himself.

"Unknown persons, probably members of al-Qaeda, fired a rocket-propelled grenade (at) about 5:30 am (local time) at my compound," Naji Abdul Aziz Al-Shaef, who leads the Bakeel tribe, told AFP news agency.

"No one was hurt," he added. "The rocket only hit the top floor of one house."

The family of his son Mohammad, a parliament member and chairman of parliament's human rights committee, occupies the building in the compound.

The Sheikh, who was in another building some 300 meters away at the time of the attack, stated that gunshots had also been fired two weeks ago against a house he owns in Al-Jawf province, which borders with the Saudi Kingdom, and where the authorities have launched a campaign to track down suspected terrorists.

"I believe elements from al-Qaeda are behind the attacks because of my role in trying to eliminate these fanatics. We will never tolerate their presence in Yemen", he concluded. (Albawaba.com)
