Welcare Hospital, the region’s premier private sector hospital, has once again pledged its support for the Dubai Rugby Sevens, the biggest rugby event in the Middle East.
Flagship of the Welcare World Health Systems (Welcare World), the multi-speciality, critical care hospital steps in as the official healthcare provider for the rugby championship for the eighth year in a row.
The three-day event that attracts teams from leading rugby playing nations in the world will be held at the Dubai Exiles Ground from November 30 to December 2 this year. Welcare will depute a specialist team of 15 doctors, 30 nurses and five paramedics to provide medical assistance throughout the championship. Dr George John, an internationally recognized Specialist Sports Medicine Surgeon, would lead the Welcare Rugby Sevens team.
The team would be capable of treating injuries ranging from minor fractures to heart attacks. Also, two fully equipped ambulances would be on the ground to attend to emergencies.
“Dubai Rugby Sevens attracts over 50,000 fans and 2,600 players from around the world every year. It is estimated that half the players, other wards 400 a day, will need medical assistance during the event. It is a task that requires special medical expertise as well as knowledge of the rules and regulations of the International Rugby Board (IRB). Our team has the resources, knowledge and experience for providing comprehensive medical assistance that meets the standards set by the governing bodies in various sports,” says Dr John.
It goes without saying that prevention is better than cure and hence, on the run-up to the event, the Welcare team is training rugby players for eight consecutive weeks on self-help and on how to avoid major injuries on the field.
