Madinat Jumeirah, The Arabian Resort – Dubai, welcomes the spectacular voice of Summer, to the Madinat Theatre on May 25th and 26th, brought to you by American Express and supported by Air France.
Summer’s debut album, which sailed straight to the Classical Charts at Number 2 in the U.K. and Number 1 in the U.S., has been separated from anything that has gone before. With a seamless fusion that has been achieved between the classical and ethnic musical idioms, a fusion that takes nothing from any genre, but rather adds to all and creates a style that is both emotively powerful and intellectually satisfying, Summer has been called a “Potential Superstar” by Classic FM Magazine. Her album is only the beginning of a musical journey, with a destination that even she doesn’t know yet. The debut range is as eclectic as you could imagine, yet the whole thing works perfectly from start to finish – from Beethoven, Morricone and Rodrigo via Vivaldi, Strauss, or even Sting.
Although the all too frequent use of the term “crossover artist” is enough to bring most music heads out in a rash, Summer’s mellifluous music completely defies categorization – she is neither one thing nor the other, and all the better for it. Somehow yet, she has managed to make this music her own, her voice drifting dreamily between genres like steam.
Summer explains “Ultimately, it is about me working with my voice and taking the music to places it has never been to”. “I want to bring people in and show them what new things can be done with the classical repertoire. I want to take the classically trained voice into unchartered territory” she adds.
