US air strikes continued Tuesday on Afghanistan, concentrating on the northern province of Samangan and in the eastern city of Jalalabad, the official added.
Al Jazeera satellite channel said that the warplanes attacked a fuel tanker convoy and showed footage of the vehicles on fire.
And the Taliban claimed a US bomb landed on a mosque in the western Afghan city of Herat, killing and injuring people praying inside, according to AFP.
Abdul Hanan Hemat, head of the Taliban's Bakhtar information agency, was quoted as saying that the mosque victims were among 15 people killed and 25 wounded in overnight bombing by US warplanes in Herat.
He also said four people were killed and 10 injured when bombs fell on homes in Daman, 15 kilometers (10 miles) south of the Taliban's stronghold of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan. Kandahar has been one of the key targets of the US bombing raids which started October 7.
The mosque was in the Qalae Shaier district of Herat and was destroyed in the attack, Hemat told AFP.
"People who were praying inside were killed and injured but we do not know how many yet," he said.
The Taliban have already claimed that more than 100 people were killed when a hospital in Herat was bombed on Monday. The United States has said they are investigating the claim – Albawaba.com
