Three Iraqis were killed and three seriously injured early Tuesday in an apparent US air attak on a village north of the town of Fallujah, hospital officials and witnesses said.
Dr. Ayman Abdel Kader al-Ami, of the Fallujah Hospital, told the AFP the three dead and three wounded were all members of the same family. The injured included two boys - Hussein, 11, and his brother Tahseen, 9. Their father Ali Khalaf Mohammed, 45, was killed. The other dead men were identified by villagers as Saadi Fayad and Salem Ismail, both said to be in their mid-30s and neighbors of Mohammed.
The U.S. military said it knew of only one death in the assault.
Witnesses said American tanks surrounded the village at around 1:30 am Monday and soldiers opened up with machinegun fire before missiles were launched from the air.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command reported Tuesday that a 101st Airborne Division soldier died from a "non-hostile" gunshot wound in an area south of Mosul on Sept. 22.
