UN renews the mandate of its peacekeeping mission in the Sahara

The Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution on last Friday to renew the mandate of its peacekeeping mission in the Sahara, the United Nations Mission for a Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), by six months. <i>Morocco Times</i> reports that the mission, which was deployed in 1991 to monitor the ceasefire between Morocco and the Algeria-backed Polisario, includes about 230 UN observers, troops and international police force.
