Iran is a suitable health and population control model for other countries, said a UN health official on Monday.
Iran's progress in these areas over the past few years has been "incredible," Mohammad Moslehodin, representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Iran, told the official Iranian news agency IRNA.
He told IRNA that programs to improve reproductive health, reduce deaths of pregnant women and mothers while delivering, implement population control, and prevent various diseases, were being carried out in Iran.
The Iranian executive's agencies have established positive and close cooperation with the UNFPA for carrying out these programs, he said, stressing that in light of such cooperation, the fund faced no problems in Iran.
UNFPA, in cooperation with some Iranian ministries and organizations, has a plan for improving the quality of educational programs for 2000-2004, he told the agency.
“The plan will begin in 70 secondary schools in five Iranian provinces including Sistan-Baluchestan, Kurdestan, Bushehr, Golestan and Tehran,” he said, adding that the plan would concentrate on issues related to reproductive health.
Several studies on women, and the establishment of 11 health centers in migrant-populated regions in Khorasan and Sistan-Baluchestan provinces, were among the programs carried out by the UNFPA during the past two years, Moslehodin said – Albawaba.com
