The UAE’s Zayed Center for Herbal Research and Traditional Medicine is conducting negotiations with international pharmaceutical companies on producing five medicines with local herbs, reported Khaleej Times on Monday.
The center announced that its researchers had completed studies and laboratory tests on these herbs, saying they had proved effective in treating diabetes, high blood pressure, oral diseases and muscle cramps.
Dr Mazen Naji, the director of the center, told the paper that that the talks aimed to set up factories in the country to produce the medicines and market them internationally.
"Research in the complex has led to the production of around 40 medicines with local herbs, six of them for blood pressure, five for diabetes and three for stomach ulcers. In addition, there are medicines for increasing immunity, removing kidney stones and treating liver diseases," he added.
"We will start our production with five medicines, two for diabetes, one for blood pressure, one for cramps and one for oral inflammations," he said – Albawaba.com
