Two Iranians convicted of murdering three jewelers and a student will be publicly hanged in the city of Mashhad at dawn on Wednesday, a source said on Monday.
The source told the official Iranian news agency, IRNA, that the supreme court had upheld the death sentences on Reza Nadi, 21 and Kazem Alayemi, 35.
"The public execution is aimed at teaching a lesson to those who would be tempted to commit such crimes and to give consolation to the family members of the victims," he said, adding: "The public is anxious to see the punishment carried out as soon as possible."
He said that the convicts, at the time of their arrest, were in possession of 11 handguns, six grenades, four silencers and a quite number of bullets.
Meanwhile, IRNA quoted the daily Kayhan International as saying that the supreme court had upheld death sentences imposed on over 100 convicted murderers.
It said two armed robbers were to be hanged publicly soon, as were 10 others in Tehran's Qasr Prison.
"Crimes and murders have, unfortunately, been on the rise including outlaws who brazenly infringe people's chastity and disrupt the security of society through acts of murder and looting," the paper said, adding: "With firm determination one can confront such banditry." – Albawaba.com
