Turkey’s justice minister Hikmet Sami Turk resigned Saturday from the government, in a step related to planned early polls.

Turk, speaking at a news conference, said he had to step down because the law compeled him to leave the post to an independent figure to run the electoral process, due on November 3rd, according to KUNA. The resigning minister occupied the post for a period of three years and had served as defense minister.

Turk, who has shown a desire to quit his political career had indicated that he might not nominate himself in the forthcoming elections, but a recent wave of resignations from the ruling party might prompt Premier Bulent Ecevit to encourage him to remain involved in politics. (Albawaba.com)
