ALBAWABA - Turkey has launched an inquiry into the shooting of Turkish American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi by Israeli forces, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said Thursday.
Tunc stated that Turkey could not remain silent in the wake of its citizen's death in an "unlawful terrorist attack by Israeli attackers," and that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had begun an investigation under domestic law.
"We will work for the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions to take immediate action, establish an independent commission of inquiry, and prepare a report," the Justice Minister stated.
The minister stated that the findings will be incorporated into current legal measures against Israel, such as the genocide case at the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
"We will continue to defend Aysenur's rights," Tunc stated, adding that he will also push for Palestinian rights and continue efforts to cease the "bloodshed" in the region.
Earlier in September, American-Turkish activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers during a rally in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa and a hospital spokesman.
Ezgi Eygi was shot while participating in a protest against illegal Israeli settlements on Mount Sbeih in Beita, south of Nablus, on Friday. According to Fouad Nafaa, the director of Nablus' Rafidia Hospital, Ezgi Eygi came in critical condition with a significant head injury.
"We tried to perform a resuscitation operation on her, but unfortunately, she died," added the doctor. Following Ezgi Eygi's killing, Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas stated that "all legal measures" will be presented to the International Criminal Court.
"We appeal to President Biden to stop all support to the occupying state because the occupying state is working hard to bomb hospitals and kill children and kill foreigners, including American nationals," Daghlas stated.
