Salwa Tlili, wife of a Tunisian opposition party leader fell to her death Tuesday from the first floor of the departure hall of the international airport in Tunis, an official source said.
She was the wife of Abderrahmane Tlili, president of the Union of Democratic Unionists, one of six authorized opposition parties. He also serves as director general of the office of civil aviation and airports. Abderrahmane Tlili unsuccessfully stood for president against incumbent Zine El Abidine Ben Ali back in 1999.
Friends of the couple told AFP news agency that Salwa Tlili had committed suicide by hurling herself from the window of the first floor hall at Tunis-Carthage airport where her husband's offices are located.
A chronic depressive, she had been hospitalized in a clinic prior to her fatal jump. An inquiry into the incident has been launched and an autopsy will be held. (Albawaba.com)
