The top Palestinian representative in Moscow warned Thursday that the Israeli-Palestinian peace plan drawn up by US President Bill Clinton could provoke a new conflict in the Middle East.
"Clinton's proposals will put an end to one war only to immediately provoke another," Khairi Aloridi told a news conference, adding that the draft accord could not be accepted by the Palestinians in its current form.
"Palestinian leader Yasser (Arafat) asked Clinton 25 questions" about the plan, and the US response will determine the Palestinian position, the diplomat said.
Arafat's answer would also depend on his "Arab brothers," Aloridi told journalists.
Arafat opened talks Thursday with Arab foreign ministers in Cairo just after meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, a key intermediary in the peace process.
The White House said Wednesday that Arafat had accepted the Clinton plan with reservations, as Palestinians voiced particular concern over the fate of millions of refugees and Muslim holy sites.
