Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong will be granted a meeting with Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej during his visit beginning Tuesday, Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said.
The Cambodian minister was expected to arrive on a visit after anti-Thai riots in Phnom Penh last week led to the torching and looting of Thailand's embassy and Thai-owned businesses.
"Last night the royal command said the king will grant Hor Namhong an audience this evening, during which he will submit to the king a letter from Cambodia's King (Norodom) Sihanouk," Thaksin told reporters ahead of a weekly cabinet meeting, according to AFP.
Hor Namhong was being considered a "special envoy of the head of state" in order to be granted the meeting, he added. His request was earlier denied on grounds that the king had other appointments.
The Cambodian foreign minister is scheduled to meet his Thai counterpart Surakiart early in the afternoon before holding talks with Thaksin. He is expected to deliver an official apology letter to the Thai monarch and the government over the riots, which took place on January 29.
In addition, he will also discuss how reconciliation, including compensation for the damage to the embassy and Thai businesses incurred during the attacks, will begin. (Albawaba.com)
