A high-level delegation from Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources visited today (Sunday, 18 December, 2005) the offices of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) to study the role and contribution of Tanmia in creating job opportunities for UAE nationals and to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties between Malaysia and the UAE, especially in the development and management of human resources. The delegation was received by Feddah Lootah, Acting Director General, Tanmia.
The delegation was headed by Fong Chan Onn, Honorable Minister of Human Resources, Malaysia and included Mohamad Shahar Darusaman, Director, Human Resources Policy Department; Yahya Mohamed, Director, Manpower Research Department; Dr Azman Aziz, Senior Officer, Social Security Organisation and Teow Hai San, Secretary to the Minister.
Tanmia has faced up to the challenge of implementing Emiratisation programmes without disrupting the tempo of UAE’s economic development. By conducting various job training and skill-enhancing programmes such as Maharat, imposing job quotas on the banking, insurance and trade sectors, and ensuring job placements jointly with employers and training centres, Tanmia has been responsible for doubling the number of employed nationals from 113, 627 in 1995 to 225,000 in 2004.
Feddah Lootah briefed the delegation on the vision of Tanmia’s Centre for Career Guidance and Planning (CCGP) for developing and planning career channels at the national level in coordination with other relevant institutions. The Center supports career guidance activities undertaken by Tanmia’s local offices, along with the Employment and Skills Development Centre. It also coordinates and directs educational and training programmes in various institutions in the UAE to meet the labour market needs, in collaboration with the Center for Labour Market Research and Information (CLMRI).
The delegation concluded the visit by praising Tanmia’s commitment towards creating job opportunities for UAE Nationals, and its efforts to provide high quality training to jobseekers in keeping with the goal of Emiratisation.
