Syrian President Bashar Assad made a brief visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, where he discussed events in the region with King Fahd, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
"The Saudi king and the Syrian president looked at ways of advancing the Middle East peace process and exchanged views on cooperation between Riyadh and Damascus," an official source was quoted by the agency as saying.
Assad, on his way back from a visit to Bahrain, also met with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdelaziz, with whom he discussed "the situation in the Arab world and ways to restore Arab solidarity."
Assad returned later Tuesday to Damascus, said AFP.
In his first visit to Bahrain, Assad met with Emir Sheikh Hamad al-Khalifa for discussions on the peace process and on ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the banking and financial training sectors and an agreement to set up an institute in Syria, reported the Bahrain Tribune newspaper.
The memorandum was signed by Bahrain’s foreign minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and his Syrian counterpart Farouq Al Shara, said the Tribune.
