Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak arrived Monday noon in Damascus. At Damascus airport, President Mubarak was welcomed by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Prime minister, Foreign Minister, Cabinet ministers and other high ranking officials.
At the Damascus al-Shaab palace, the two leaders held a plenary meeting. It was attended by members of the Egyptian delegation accompanying Mubarak and the Syrian prime minister, Mohammad Naji Otri, the foreign minister Farouq al-Shara, the ministers of electricity and information and the minister for Presidential affairs Ghassan Laham, SANA reported.
Before the arrival of the Egyptian delegation, it was reported the talks would concentrate on Israel's threats against Syria. Mubarak was quoted as saying during his talks that "the provocations and challenges Syria encounters are rejected and unjustified, and such practices also do not serve the security and stability of the region."
