The technological direction the Arab world should be charting in different industrial sectors, will be indicated by 500 senior Arab scientists, technologists and researchers. Significantly, the scientists have been key contributors to Western civilization and progress. The scientists' report will emerge during the Scientific Research and Technology Development in the Arab World symposium, being held by the Arab Science and Technology Foundation in Sharjah from March 24-27, said the Emirati official news agency (WAM).

The agency said that the foundation has invited Arab dignitaries to prepare strategies and identify objectives under the topics: Arab Strategy for Science and Technology between the 20th and 21st centuries, Arab Scientific Society and Economies of Scientific Research and Priorities of the Arab World.

Delegates will assess and review strategies in certain industrial sectors to identify research priorities needed to develop them. The symposium will also specify joint Arab research projects under topics supported by the foundation. Local, regional and international organizations are supporting the symposium, including UNESCO, the Italy-based Third World Academy for Sciences, and the Arab Organization for Education and Culture and Science. Other participants include the U.S.-based Arab Technologists and Scientists Network, Lebanon-based Arab University Studies Center, and the UK's Renewing International Power Network.

A scientific exhibition will be held alongside, displaying the research capabilities and facilities of different universities and centers in the Arab world. Participation in the exhibition is open to all Arab scientific and publishing establishments and academic institutions (Albawaba.com)
