For the first time ever, ‘Sultans of Science’ the traveling version of Dubai’s permanent Ibn Battuta Mall exhibition on “1000 Years of Knowledge Rediscovered” is open at the MTN Sciencentre in Cape Town South Africa to coincide with the famous annual York Forum which gathers the worlds top scientists and museum heads under one roof.
Researched and prepared by MTE Studios, the ‘Sultans of Science’ exhibition showcases inventions and discoveries by Islamic scientists and inventors between the 7th and 17th Century, which laid the foundation for modern science. The exhibition aims to improve the understanding of optics, physics, mechanics, flight, astronomy, cartography, water-raising devices, trick devices, the Elephant Water Clock and the Castle Clock that will assist teaching the history of science, mechanisms, physics, map making and the human body.

The “Sultans of Science” exhibition unveiled at the MTN Sciencentre in Canal Walk, on the 16th of November marking its premier showing in South Africa. The travelling exhibition was developed by MTE Studios - Cape Town and Dubai, a specialized consultancy practice that focuses on themed architecture and interactive learning exhibitions.
The historical innovations, creations and developments that have been placed in the MTN Sciencentre helps visitors have an understanding of the numerous contributions made by Islamic scholars during the Golden Age of the Islamic World. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Professor Mike Bruton of the MTN Sciencentre in South Africa said, “The MTN Sciencentre is proud to house this interactive display of scientific discoveries of historical value. It is educational and a valuable addition to the centre’s existing display of exhibits as the project promises to not only to be entertaining but also to raise the level of historical awareness on Islam’s contribution to Science and Technology.”
A quick glimpse of the exhibition shows respected Medical Discoveries made by the first hospital ever, an Islamic hospital called Maristan headed by Jibrail Bakhtishu. The exhibition also showcases inventions such as Al Jazari’s Water raising devices, trick devices as well as discoveries and studies in astronomy.
The exhibition at the MTN Sciencentre is a welcome attraction not only to children on school trips but for adults who share a keen interest in history and developments made through the ages.
MTE Studios also signed a supervision of project agreement recently with The Research House for Islamic Studies & Heritage Revival in Dubai. The agreement includes the Academic supervision and contribution of The Research House for Islamic Studies & Heritage Revival towards the global Iconic exhibition called ‘1000 years of knowledge rediscovered’ at the Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai U.A.E. as well as ‘Sultans of Science’.
