A summit of the Central African Republic (CAR), Chad and Sudan, originally planned to take place Monday in the Sudanese capital, has been postponed indefinitely, a senior Sudanese official said. The official, requesting anonymity, said Saturday the summit had been postponed due to "circumstances in each country".
He said the reconvening of peace talks between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in Nairobi on Monday was the main reason for the delay, though he did not elaborate on the reasons from the other two nations, according to AFP.
The news comes as fighting resumed this week in southern Sudan between government forces and the SPLA. Analysts believe that a border clash between Chad and CAR earlier this week may have also been behind the postponement of the summit which was planned to discuss border issues amongst the three countries.
