The Sudanese government is studying plans to hold a free trade zone with Kuwait, press reports said.
In a report by the Sudanese al-Aai al-Aam newspaper, quoted by the Kuwait news agency (KUNA), the head of the foreign relations department in the Sudanese ministry of foreign affairs Mustafa Ahmad Mustafa said that Kuwait had presented a plan to establish a free trade zone between the two countries and an agreement that would make all goods traded between the two countries tax-free.
He said that the government is going to discuss the plan in a manner that would not harm the local Sudanese industry.
For the first time since its establishment, Kuwait is currently taking part in the Khartoum international exhibition that was inaugurated last Thursday and would continue until February 11th, said the agency.
A year ago, Sudanese Omar Al-Bashir visited Kuwait and succeeded in restoring the relations between the two countries to their normal course. The relations between the two Arab countries froze after Sudan stood by Iraq during the Gulf War in 1991.
During the visit, Bashir signed a number of cooperation agreements with the Gulf state in different fields – Albawaba.com
