South Africa will host talks between Senior Palestinian and Israeli officials on Wednesday, as part of the international efforts made to establish peace between the two sides, according to South Africa’s Foreign Ministry.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said "The meeting will be hosted by President Thabo Mbeki and attended by officials from both sides." Mamoepa added that his country is eager to share its experiences in the “transition to democracy”, according to the Washington Post.
Palestinian peace negotiator Saeb Erakat, Israeli Parliament Speaker Avraham Burg and former Israeli Minister Yossi Beilin will be among the delegates to participate in the meeting.
South African representatives include former Foreign Minister Pik Botha, Roelf Meyer, one of the constitution’s architects, Public Enterprises Minister Jeff Radebe, Environmental Affairs and Tourism Minister Valli Moosa, and Transport Minister Dullah Omar. The meeting will be held at an unspecified venue
The short three-day-meeting is aimed at restarting the Middle East peace process and breaking the violence prevalent in the region. (Albawaba.com)
