The European Union's foreign policy coordinator Javier Solana is to visit Israel, Egypt and Jordan next week to discuss the situation in the volatile region, the EU mission in Cairo said Thursday.
The Cairo-based Al Akhbar daily said Thursday that Solana is expected in Cairo on Tuesday.
According to AFP, he will be accompanied by the EU's envoy for the Middle East Miguel Angel Moratinos; they will begin the tour late Sunday or Monday in Tel Aviv, and be in Amman Wednesday.
In Cairo they are expected to have talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher on the latest developments in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Mubarak met on the same day with Italian Foreign Minister Renato Ruggiero, during which Egypt reiterated accusations that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was trying to bury the new hopes for peace – Albawaba.com
