Singapore's leader arrived Wednesday in Cairo, beginning a 10-day tour of the Middle East region that is expected to push for stronger trade relations between the Southeast Asia city-state and Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain.

Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong was expected to meet with Prime Minister Atef Obeid, and later in his four-day stay, visit with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Singapore has started free-trade talks with Jordan and

Bahrain, but has not mentioned any intention to enter

similar negotiations with Egypt.

Goh was scheduled to meet with Jordan's King Abdullah II

during a three-day visit to his country.

Meanwhile, the trip's final stop on Tuesday will be Bahrain, where Goh is scheduled to meet King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa before returning to Singapore. (Albawaba.com)
