Sheikh Alazhar, Mohammed Sayd Tantawi stopped over late Friday night at Tripoli international airport in his return from Morocco to Egypt.
In a statement to Jana news agency, Sheikh Alazhar said : "I am very delighted to come this night to the state to which we have great respect and appreciation and to its Leader, Mu'ammer al-Gathafi, we have great love and gratitude and we invoke the Almighty to make his moves successful and to make love and co-operation between us everlasting".
Earlier in Morocco, Tantawi, accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashim, former Rector of the Azhar University and Egypt's ambassador to Rabat, Ashraf Za'za, have visited the headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Rabat, and were met by the director-general of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Othman Al-Tuweijry.
The two sides exchanged views and ideas on issues concerning the Islamic world, such as their support for the concept of dialogue between faiths, the correction of the image of Islam and Muslims in the world, and the projection of Islam's tolerance and its middle-of-the-road stance.
The Grand Sheikh lauded the efforts that are being made by ISESCO and its leadership.
After leading prayers at the ISESCO mosque, Dr. Tantawi said that attaching the stigma of terrorism to Islam was a gross lie and a deception, and asserted that Jihad in Islam is sanctioned when it is for self-defense, or defending religion, human dignity, and for supporting the oppressed.
