The Israeli ultra-Orthodox Shas party on Tuesday threatened to quit Sharon's coalition if the government did not pass a law legalizing pirate radio stations run by the party, Israel Radio reported.
On Monday, the ministerial committee for legislation in the Knesset refused to pass the proposed bill that would have legalized the stations, said the report, cited by Haaretz newspaper.
Three ministers from the ruling Likud Party blocked the proposal, saying that the legalization of the stations would harm the concept of equality.
Ministers from Shas claim that the Likud has not fulfilled its coalition agreement promises to the ultra-Orthodox party.
Shas withdrew from the government of former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak last July, following the Camp David meetings with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and former US president Bill Clinton – Albawaba.com
