The UAE is a gateway to markets in Europe, the CIS, Asia and North Africa and is a natural, central point in the Global Supply Chain with the varied logistical options that it offers in the overall distribution concept. Sharjah International Airport was home to the first airfield in the region and has decades of experience in connecting international markets and meeting logistical requirements.”
The Sharjah International Airport is undergoing massive expansion currently and recently released record commercial flight, passenger traffic and freight figures which have soared dramatically in 2006.
Located in the midst of the thriving and bustling Sharjah city famed for its culture, heritage and numerous tourist attractions, Sharjah International Airport (SIA) is becoming one of the fastest growing airports in the region.
Established in 1932, the airport is currently the Middle East’s leading transport gateway due to its unique geographical position linking the East and West. Ideally placed in the heart of the UAE between Sharjah’s seaports on the Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf, the airport offers fast and efficient cargo links throughout the country.
To cope with the dramatic increase in traffic, Sharjah International Airport has embarked on a four-fold expansion project scheduled for completion in early 2007. The expansion will herald a new and exciting era for the SIA, always intent on providing the very best services and facilities for passengers and visitors as well as establishing Sharjah’s position as a premier travel and business hub within the region.
