Senior Israeli officer: Hizbullah rehabilitated military strength

A senior Israeli intelligence officer told the parliament members on Monday that Hizbullah has managed to rebuild its military wing to match its force prior to the war in Lebanon last summer.

Speaking at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Brigadier General Yossi Baidatz said his information is based on facts, not on estimates. According to Haaretz, Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz, who attended the meeting, corrected Baidatz saying the report does not pertain to actual military force but to the potential for acquiring military capabilities.

Turning his attention to Syria, Baidatz said Damascus is upgrading its military arsenal for fear of confrontation with Israel. "Syria is undergoing a process of military strengthening. The Syrians are worried about a military confrontation with Israel and they do not want to initiate that," he said, according to Ynetnews.
