ALBAWABA - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will be visiting Egypt from Sept. 17 to 19 to discuss tension in the Middle East and to co-chair the opening of the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue, The US Embassy in Egypt announced.
The embassy further wrote that Blinken is set to meet Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty during his trip to Cairo.
It said: "Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will travel to Egypt September 17-19 to co-chair the opening of the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty."
Moreoover, there are high hopes that the strategic dialogue will strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries, deepen economic development, and boost people-to-people relationships through culture and education.
In addition, the Secretary of State is also scheduled to hold talks with Egyptian officials to discuss the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza and try to reach a ceasefire that secures the release of all hostages, ends the suffering of the Palestinians in the strip, and helps establish broader regional security.
The war in Gaza has been going on since October 7, 2023, when the Hamas military group launched the Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel, which is described as the biggest offensive in decades.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 41,226 Palestinians were killed and 95,413 others were injured as the war entered its 11th month.
