Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal held talks in Riyadh Tuesday on the situation in the Gulf and other international matters with the US State Department's policy planning director, Richard Haass.
The two officials discussed "bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues of concern to the two nations," the official SPA news agency reported.
Haass, who is currently on a regional tour, later left Saudi Arabia. He had earlier this week held talks with officials in Qatar, site of a major air base used by US troops, and the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet.
His tour comes as Washington seeks to drum up international support for a tough new United Nations resolution mandating the use of force against Iraq if it does not comply with a tight arms inspection regime. (Albawaba.com)
