Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE:SAY), a global IT and consulting services provider, has announced its plans to launch the Satyam School of Leadership (SSL), a corporate university to develop and nurture leaders to accelerate Satyam’s growth. To drive this initiative, Satyam has appointed international leadership expert Ed Cohen as the Senior Vice President of the Corporate University.
The company has dedicated this decade to strengthen its leadership practices. The launch of SSL as well as other leadership initiatives such as the Full Life Cycle Leadership framework and web seminars involving distinguished international faculty are firm steps towards this objective.
Commenting on the launch, Satyam Founder and Chairman, Ramalinga Raju said, “Satyam has set itself the task of growing leaders faster than our competition. To remain competitive, we need to strengthen and spread this vision internally. The Satyam School of Leadership is built on the philosophy of expanding the entrepreneurial energy at Satyam, and to help us keep pace with the ever-changing business environment. This initiative will initially cover about five per cent of our associates*, we aim to extend this to over ten per cent in the next few years”.
The Satyam School of Leadership, a one-of-its-kind establishment, has been institutionalised with the intention of grooming senior associates of Satyam into business and thought leaders. The strategic intent is to create an establishment that engenders full lifecycle leadership capabilities and will include associates from Satyam’s subsidiary companies as well. The corporate university, with facilities to enable virtual participation from across the globe, will be housed in a world-class facility in Hyderabad, India.
Faculty, drawn from senior leaders within the organisation and leaders from the industry and academia across the world, will impart holistic business leadership skills balancing the needs of the multiple stakeholders.  A significant portion of the sessions will be facilitated virtually to address the needs of leaders spread over 53 countries.
Commenting on the new initiative, A S Murthy, Director and Senior Vice President, Human Resources said, “We welcome Ed Cohen to the Satyam family and are confident that his knowledge, experience and leadership will help enhance the leadership capabilities of our FLC leaders.”

Ed Cohen, Senior Vice President for Leadership Development at Satyam, will head the corporate university. He is responsible for creating the vision and strategy for leadership development, and to build the Satyam School of Leadership into a niche institution.
“I will maintain a macro-level view of the industry so that I can continually refresh my own learning and knowledge,” said Cohen. “For instance, the growth of additional services, such as executive coaching, is raising the profile of corporate learning and its strategic effect on corporate culture. I’m not saying that the learning organisation controls the culture, but we’re a conduit to the leaders of the firm; they’re the ones who identify what they want the culture to be, but we help institutionalise it”.
Satyam’s consistent focus has been value creation for its stakeholders including its associates, investors, customers and the society at large. For more than a decade, Satyam has focused on addressing both the leadership development needs and general learning needs of the organisation through its dedicated learning centre.
Its value creation efforts have been strengthened through its proprietary Full Life Cycle (FLC) Leadership model, where entrepreneurial leadership opportunities have been provided for about five per cent of Satyam associates in defined areas, such as Relationships (with Customers & Alliances), Service Offerings, Projects & Processes.

The Satyam School of Leadership – a one-of-its-kind establishment has been institutionalized with the intention of grooming senior Associates of Satyam into business and thought leaders of tomorrow. Being able to balance the interests of multiple stakeholders in an integrated ecosystem with an optimum combination of Thinking, Doing and Communicating aspects of leadership, is critical, and calls for full lifecycle leadership.
The strategic intent behind the evolution of the Satyam School of Leadership was to create an establishment that engenders full lifecycle leadership capabilities. The School seeks to identify potential leaders from Satyam’s senior Associate base; enhance leadership development in them through focused & holistic learning interventions; and thereby grow leaders, qualified to successfully manage Full Life Cycle responsibilities. The faculty would comprise senior leaders within the organization and leaders from the industry and academia across the world. The School would cover Associates from subsidiary businesses as well. Going ahead time, Satyam would also extend this facility to its customers on a need basis as it has already been receiving requests to avail of the state-of-art training facilities and customized leadership modules.
