The UAE’s Offset Group on Saturday awarded South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries a $802 million contract to build a water desalination facility and a power plant, reported the Gulf Daily News.
The group said in a statement, cited by the paper, that the plant, which will be based in the northern emirate of Fujairah, would owned by the Ittihad Company for Water and Electricity, a $407m firm created by the government of Abu Dhabi to manage the project.
The statement said Doosan, which changed its name from Hanjung earlier this year, would build the power and desalination plants as well as storage tanks.
The firm beat competition from Frances Sidem, a unit of Vivendi Environment, and Italy’s Fisia Italimpianti, a unit of construction group Impregilo, said the paper – Albawaba.com
