Romanian President Ion Iliescu arrived Monday in Algiers for an official three-day visit, officials in Algiers said.
Iliescu was met at Algiers' Houari Boumediene airport by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and several senior Algerian officials. He is expected to hold talks with Bouteflika dealing with bilateral cooperation and international issues, the officials said.
Iliescu is also due to meet with Algerian Prime Minister Ali Benflis, Senate leader Abdelakader Bensalah, and Karim Younes, the speaker of the lower house of parliament, which he will address Tuesday.
Several businessmen, according to APS news agency, are accompanying the Romanian leader on his visit.
In addition, Iliescu is set to attend an Algerian-Romanian economic forum, at which a bilateral business council will be established. (Albawaba.com)
