Roads and Transport Authority organizes series of activities to instruct school students across Dubai on Safety and Security

In association with the Children’s City of Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority yesterday March 19, 2006, organized a series of educational and cultural activities for school students in Alkhor Park in Dubai. As a part of the Gulf Traffic Week, this program is a part of a determined strategy by the RTA to increase public awareness in all social segments and maintain safety and security norms that are highly stringent that will aid in decreasing the number of accidents in the Emirates.

The participants included schools across various Emirates where the RTA stressed on the necessity of safe driving and abiding and confirming to safety standards like the use of the seat belt, road crossing and boarding and alighting buses etc with ‘Question and Answer Sessions’ supporting this.

The RTA organized another group of activities that comprised of movies specialized for kids and distributed information to increase public awareness thus persevering the importance of following traffic rules and regulations. Such activities were organized to achieve their objective of highest standards of safety and decrease in the number of accidents.

Hashmi Al Hashimi, Director of Traffic said, “We continue organizing such programs as part of our committed efforts to reinforce the rules of safety, as these activities play important roles in educating people on safety standards and thus decreasing accidents and traffic congestions. The Gulf Traffic Week has played a great role in reinforcing the standards of safety to all segments of society. We plan to organize many such activities for all segments in the future."

Makiah Al Hajeri, President of Children's City in Dubai Municipality said, "We work towards strengthening our relationships with different authorities and associations in the country. We are glad to partner with the RTA to organize a lot of activities and campaigns like the Gulf Traffic Program, that aim at increasing children's awareness in all aspects of traffic safety. We will continue to organize and be a part of such activities in the future."

The "Road and Transport Authority" was set up in Dubai in November 2005 as the main body responsible for all roads and public transport issues and activities in Dubai. Supporting Dubai's social, economical and tourism development, RTA has set its vision, mission and strategic goals to eliminate the prevailing traffic congestion, and ensure safe and smooth transport.

In its effort to develop an economic and sustainable transporting system, RTA is devoting significant importance and attention to the issue of establishing procedures and tools that can enhance integration between land use and transportation plans. RTA considers success in this field vital to its overall success in offering "Safe and Smooth Transport for all".
