Three Germans have been kidnapped in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, a government source said Monday.

The source told AFP the Germans were abducted near Nosrat Abad, on the road between the historic cities of Bam and Zahedan, near the Pakistani border.

A report on the unofficial Rouydad website said the Germans were tourists who were cycling to Zahedan. They were abducted several days ago by members of the Shah-Bakhsh and Narui tribes who demanded a ransom for their release, it said.

In the past, kidnappings of Westerners took place in the Sistan-Baluchistan region and placed a cloud over Tehran's efforts to boost its fledgling tourism industry in a bid to reduce its dependence on oil exports. (albawaba.com)
