Four straight days of driving rain in Cuba claimed two lives, triggered the collapse of dozens of homes and left serious crop damage, local media reported Monday.
A 41-year-old Havana woman was electrocuted by a toppled power line and a 60-year-old man drowned in the capital's El Cerro neighborhood.
The downpours were blamed for extensive residential damage, destroying 80 homes, 16 of which collapsed completely, the Communist Party newspaper Granma reported.
Some 400 homes were damages in Villa Clara, in central Cuba, where 595 people had to be briefly evacuated, the weekly Trabajadores reported.
Authorities in Villa Clara province also reported damage to potato, cabbage, tomato and tobacco crops -- HAVANA (AFP)
