Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani issued a decree for the establishment of the National Committee for Human Rights.
The committee, set up for the first time in Qatar, aims at achieving the goals of international human rights charters.
It is to provide consultations to the state on human rights and freedom issues and would also look into any human rights violations and find means to avoid them.
In addition, it is to record what international organizations and non-governmental organizations say about those issues in the state, the Kuwaiti news agency reported.
Furthermore, the committee would include at least five members that represent the civil society in addition to representatives from several ministries. The members are to elect a chairman and a deputy chairman for the committee. (Albawaba.com)
