Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has emphasized its continued commitment to the environment and compliance with relevant environmental legislation, on the occasion of World Environment Day, which is being observed on June 5, 2005. The theme this year is ‘Green Cities: Plan for the planet’.
“PCFC has given top priority to environment conservation and preservation, to ensure that all business operations carried out by the corporation are in perfect harmony with the nature. We adhere to international standards of environmental safety and protection and are also actively involved in adopting measures like recycling and reusing water and paper,” said Ahmed Abdul Hussain, Director of Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) Department at PCFC
To commemorate World Environment Day, the EHSS Division of PCFC, along with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), conducted an informative workshop for children where they were taught about various aspects of conserving the natural environment and recycling. Besides, the women employees of PCFC were taken on a trip to the Delma island in the Arabian Gulf, giving them an opportunity to see the huge vegetable and fruit cultivation developed in the desert.
PCFC has been working closely with its clients in organising basic environmental awareness courses and conducting workshops on environmental initiatives and methods for mitigation of emissions from the client’s business operations.
“This year’s theme, which focuses on green cities, highlights the challenges raised by the rapid growth of people living in urban settings. There could be adverse environmental consequences of urban growth unless citizens, governments, corporates and others, take up the responsibility to do their part in protecting the environment. We need to create environment friendly cities through proper planning and cooperation. The transformation of cities to sustainability requires the collective and individual contributions of all concerned parties,” added Hussain.
