ALBAWABA - A Boeing 747-8 aircraft that took off from Miami International Airport caught fire shortly after departure.
In a video shared on social media, sparks can be seen emanating from the tail of the Atlas Air jet. It is presumed that the flames originated from an engine malfunction.
The person recording the footage can be heard expressing shock and uttering expletives as the flames illuminate the night sky multiple times.
According to Flightaware data, the cargo aircraft, valued at over $400 million, took off from Miami airport at 22:32 and the pilot was expected to make an emergency landing just a few minutes later at 22:46.
Atlas Air confirmed that the aircraft safely returned to the airport without any reported injuries. The company stated, 'The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA.'
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams responded to the incident, and in a separate statement, Miami International Airport reported no injuries in the incident.
The aircraft later continued its planned journey to San Juan, Porto Rico. The video sharer from the Miami area mentioned contacting the Miami-Dade County Emergency Unit immediately upon realizing the unfolding disaster. Authorities thanked the individual and confirmed the aircraft's safe return to Miami.
