A senior Palestinian official praised Monday UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's initiative to bear the costs of restoration of the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem and the neighboring Omar ibn Al Khatab mosque.
The Church, the holiest shrine to Christians, is under Israeli siege. '' Sheikh Zayed's gesture is a practical translation of the Islamic noble values and humanitarian and civilizational principles, said Sheikh Yousuf Juma Salama, acting Palestinian Minister for Religious Affairs and Awqaf, in a statement to Emirates News Agency, WAM.
