Omantel, the national network operator in the Sultanate of Oman, has commissioned Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group (ICN) to develop its network into a broadband-capable medium, said ITP.net.
The integrated solution Attane hiA 7100 with ADSL technology from the Siemens ICN group will be used for broadband subscriber access, the magazine said.
Omantel is building an ADSL broadband network using this technology to meet what is described as a growing need for high-speed Internet access.
According to the technology magazine, the telco seeks to market its broadband services to private households and customers such as banks, the Sultan Qaboos University and Petrol Development Oman.
Omantel will use broadband internet access for applications such as e-commerce.
