Muscat penal court has sentenced a senior Omani banker to three years in prison and fined him a sum of $173,590 for embezzlement at the Muscat Housing Bank, reported The Gulf News.
A brief announcement by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) was quoted by the daily as saying that Faqir Mohammed Dad bin Hussein had been convicted by the Muscat Penal Court for forgery and embezzlement at Oman Housing Bank.
The bank's former chairman, Juma bin Mohammed Al Nasiri, former general manager Mahmud bin Mohammed Al Bahram, and auditor Yaqub Faqir are already in jail for defrauding the bank, which was set up in 1975 to help citizens build houses through soft loans, it added.
A reliable source, according to the paper, said that the suspect’s was a separate case and had nothing to do with the previous well publicized scandal, the first of its kind which shook financial circles – Albawaba.com
