Omani police said on Wednesday they had arrested 90 illegal immigrants of various nationalities, reported the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.

A police statement said they were arrested in the Al Batinah area, overlooking Oman Gulf, and in the central Mesandam governorate, near the Arabian Gulf.

Those arrested included Pakistanis, Somalis, Afghan, Yemenis, Bangladeshis and Iranians.

Police say the foreigners will be put on trial.

Last year, Oman arrested more than 1,200 illegal immigrants, and in 2001, over 1,100 people have illegally entered Oman to work there and in other Arabian Gulf states — Albawaba.com
