New president for UEM

During the 16th congress of the Union of Moroccan Writers (UEM), Abdelhamid Akkar, a writer and critique, was chosen to be the successor of Hassan Najmi as the new president of the Moroccan writers organization. He will serve in this post for the next three years.

 

The organization's former president, poet Hassan Najmi, served in this position for two successive terms of three years each. <i>Aujourd'hui</i> reports that the new elected president was gained the support of 150 voters out of the 167, who took part in this election process.

 

Akkar was born in 1946 in Chefchaouen and graduated from the department of Social Sciences and Literature in Rabat in 1979. He is considered to be an expert in Romanesque discourse.
