ALBAWABA- Israeli authorities have arrested Eli Feldstein, a spokesman closely linked to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for allegedly leaking classified intelligence to European media outlets, bypassing strict military censorship.
The leaked information reportedly compromised sensitive hostage negotiations with Hamas, sparking widespread condemnation.
Feldstein, who lacked proper security clearance, is accused of manipulating public opinion to bolster Netanyahu's position during critical talks. Israeli media revealed that the leaks followed the killing of six hostages in Gaza, which triggered mass protests against the government.
The aim of the leaks was allegedly to blame Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar for the deaths and sway public sentiment against a prisoner exchange deal.
Three unnamed defense officials are also under investigation, with suspects facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Opposition leaders have denounced the incident as a grave breach of national security and demanded accountability.
Channel 12 reported that Feldstein avoided publishing the classified material in Israel due to censorship, opting to leak it abroad instead.
This revelation has fueled public outrage, intensifying criticism of Netanyahu's leadership during a period of heightened political and security tensions.
